Prioritize Traditional IV Opioids Over IV Oliceridine

Oliceridine (Olinvyk) will be a new IV opioid for acute pain in adults...for use via IV push or patient-controlled analgesia (PCA).

It’s a full opioid agonist, like morphine, fentanyl, etc. But you’ll hear it called a “biased opioid agonist.”

That’s because it selectively activates the analgesia pathway...and has less affinity for the pathway thought to cause adverse effects, such as respiratory depression, nausea, and vomiting.
