Lots of women are interested in NATURAL hormone therapy...for PMS, menopause, etc.
This is being widely promoted through books and newsletters.
Now some physicians and pharmacists are getting together to offer special programs. They test women's hormone levels and recommend custom doses.
The idea is to restore hormones to natural levels.
Pharmacists counsel women and monitor therapy. They use saliva tests or patient symptoms to monitor hormone levels.
Some pharmacists also compound custom doses of natural hormones...estradiol, micronized progesterone, and testosterone. These are the same hormones that are produced in the body.
They dispense these hormones as oral capsules...creams...gels...suppositories, etc.
Natural hormones are effective.
Estrace and the estrogen patches contain estradiol. These are approved for menopausal symptoms and to prevent osteoporosis.
Schering markets an oral micronized progesterone in Canada. There's evidence that it has better effects on lipids than Provera.
We've made a page of some resources and contacts for pharmacists who want to get involved in this area. We'd be happy to send it to you...or you can get it from our PHARM-FaxBACK system.
